I work in and around Surrey and Hampshire as a mobile Physiotherapist, providing both Physiotherapy sessions and Sports Massages. Apart from my Physio training and experience, in 2011 I completed my ITEC level 3 in Sports Massage. I honed my skills working with local football and rugby clubs and at Red Hot Yoga in Guildford.

Currently I provide home visits within a 5 mile area of Woking, Surrey, GU22. I can also provide massages at pamper parties / work events.

About

Sports Massage is a deep tissue style massage that is not just for athletes! It works to identify and reduce muscle tension and soreness and can be used to aid in recovery from injury.

Massage itself is a great tool that all Physios are trained to use and has many physical and mental benefits. Massage can be a very reassuring and comforting form of treatment and doesn’t have to painful. Sports massages tend to work deeper into the tissues and can involve techniques such as myofascial release or trigger point release which are often uncomfortable.

It is important to work at your own comfort level, both for your enjoyment and because we tend to tense / protect areas that hurt and this may reduce the effectiveness of any release work. So to start, you choose the depth and level that you want me to work at and if you want to change things as we go along, you can.

Your First Session

Your first massage session starts with completing and reviewing a basic health questionnaire and consent form (you can complete this in advance to allow more time for hands-on work).

We then talk through the area(s) you want to work on and what you want to get from the massage.

You then undress only as far as needed, in privacy, and any areas not currently being worked on will be covered and kept warm with towels. The massage medium will be applied and gentle warming techniques (effleurage) are used to warm up and ready the tissues. The massage may involve working multiple different areas or focusing on just one and will include a range of different techniques, depending on your goals, the type of area and the condition of the tissues.

After the massage completes, you’ll be offered advice on how to make the most of the massage and tips and exercises to further benefit the affected area(s).

Techniques used:

  • Myofascial release
  • Effleurage
  • Percussion / Tapotement eg. tapping/cupping
  • Frictions
  • Petrissage (kneading)
  • METs (muscle energy techniques)
  • Stretching / Traction
