Update 13/9/2020: I am unable to take on any new clients at the moment

Covid-19 (coronavirus) information – I’ll be completing all initial sessions via Video Call (Zoom) only, as per current Physio guidance. I can provide face to face or virtual sessions following this (we have to complete a risk assessment – how risky it is for you to see me vs possible benefits – and screen you for Covid-19 symptoms), as appropriate. The guidance we have to follow for for whether we can see someone face to face or not is here.

PPE: I will be wearing PPE for our sessions (single use) and the area we’re working in will be cleaned thoroughly between clients. If you prefer me to clean any areas you’ll be coming into contact with, in front of you, that is no problem at all – just let me know (just beware that the cleaning solution I use can take a few mins to dry!).
I will be wearing a set of nitrile gloves, a plastic disposable apron and a fluid resistant face mark (IIR) for each individual client. If you want to see the Government guidance that I am following, please see here.

Do you need to wear a mask?
I am not currently seeing anyone with possible/confirmed Covid-19, so there is no need for you to wear a mask. You are however very welcome to bring and wear your own (of any type).

Hand Washing: I have alcohol (80%) hand rub available on site and will ask you to use this on entry and exit. I will be cleaning my hands (either hand rub or soap and water) at the start and finish of our sessions and after any hands-on work together. You are welcome to use the hand rub at any time.

Social distancing: For most of the session, I will be keeping a 2m distance away from you to minimise the risk of potential transmission to both you and me. We have been advised to keep any contact less than 2m apart, to within 15mins. For follow up sessions of 30mins, this would normally be how long we’d have out hands on you (assessement/treatment) but for initials we may need to be a bit more hands off / defer some tests to future sessions (I’ll be risk assessing as we go along and will let you know what I’m doing/not doing and why).

Can I bring someone with me?
Ideally, no.
If you need to bring your child with you, please let me know when booking, so that we can ensure a suitable set up and screening process. Only babies and infants are allowed in sessions. If you child is mobile then I’m afraid it is not possible to bring them along.
If you feel youneed someone with you during the session eg. a chaperone for an examination / interpreter, then please discuss this with me in advance of your session. I will try to accommodate this wherever possible, within the current rules.

Toilets: There is a toilet on site that you are welcome to use. Door handles and the toilet and sink area will be cleaned between use. There will be soap and hand rub available in the bathroom.

About Physio

Physiotherapy is an evidence-based profession that specialises in musculoskeletal problems.

We start off talking; most important is to get an idea what you want to get out of our session(s). Everything is led by you and I explain what we’re doing as we go along.

Treatment is tailor-made for you and takes into account your preferences (hands-on / exercises / advice / ergonomics) and lifestyle. Eg. you may prefer to focus on doing any exercises at work, rather than using up precious time at home. So we would want to focus on suitable positions and making them quick and easy to fit into this. You may prefer a more hands-on approach. I can support that by providing advice and recommendations for equipment so you can release off tension and pain outside of our sessions, to prolong and increase the benefits of this.

Your First Session (virtual)

We start off with your medical history (I will send you a link / electronic copy in advance, as all initial assessments are currently by virtual means), talk through any problems you may have and how they affect you. If relevant and if you’re happy to go ahead, I’ll have a look at the affected area (down to skin where possible and appropriate), how your body moves (how far, how well, if any pain) and how strong different parts of your body are. I would normally have a feel of the sore area, where possible, so may ask you to feedback sensation on touch (eg. pain/numbness). If we continue with face to face sessions, I would aim to have a feel of the sore area then, if appropiate.

If pain is your primary issue, the aim is to keep your pain levels as low as possible while we have a feel and look at what is going on and our treatment will focus on trying to reduce the pain levels down and how you can do this at home without me.

How Many Sessions?: Evidence has shown that it normally takes 4-6 sessions to get the most out of Physiotherapy treatment. For complex conditions, particularly if you have had them for several months, this may take longer to resolve and require more sessions. We’ll aim to get an idea of what we can achieve together and how long I think it will take, by the end of your first session.

Forms

All participants are required to fill out a health questionnaire and consent form prior to starting their first session.
This allows me to screen for anything that would make participation unsafe or, more commonly, to allow me to help identify the issue at hand, any factors that may be contributing towards it and help us address it.

I can provide Physiotherapy services in your own home.

All sessions start with an Initial Assessment (up to 60mins) to allow time to get an idea of the issue(s) to be addressed and to begin treatment. Follow up sessions can be 30, 45 or 60 mins long, depending on your needs. A standard follow-up is 30mins.
