Roz Pilates – About

I teach a form of modified Pilates created by the APPI that focuses on technique and quality of movement, with the aim to make the most of your body and help prevent/manage injuries and issues. The classes are suitable for all ages and the beginner and mixed classes are suitable for all experience levels. The Mixed Ability class gives additional options for each exercise to add challenge for those that want it.

My Physiotherapy skills and knowledge allow me to modify any exercises or positions, as needed, to work around any aches and pains, or to specifically target areas. Whether you have a longstanding issue that you want to manage better or want to push your body to its limits, each session can be modified to suit you.

All Roz Pilates group classes have a maximum of 14 participants but are often much smaller. These small numbers ensure I am able to give individual attention to each participant throughout the class, as needed.

Pregnancy

I am able to take prenatal and postnatal ladies in my classes.

Postnatal – After your 6 week check (normally by your GP), you can join straight into the classes. You will need to complete the postnatal health questionnaire online, at least 48 hours prior to your first class. This allows me time to review your form and arrange a free phone chat, if needed, to ensure I am best able to support you in the class.

Prenatal – The degree of modifications you may need in the class will often depend on your stage of pregnancy and any aches and pains or intricacies with the pregnancy itself. To ensure I am able to work with you safely and help you get the most from the class, you will need to complete the prenatal health questionnaire and consent form, followed by a free 15 min phone or video chat with me. This helps me to check Pilates will work for you and your baby, as well as planning the class for your stage of pregnancy.

If you are new to Pilates or if you have an issues, such as pelvic girdle or back pain, then we can arrange a 1:1 session before you start the group classes, to allow me to safely and effectively modify the exercises for you during the class.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.

For those with specific needs or who want to work at their own pace, I run 1:1 and small group (1:2 up to 1:6) sessions in your own home / via Zoom.

Your First Session

I can provide any equipment you will need for your first 2 taster sessions but please let me know in advance if you need me to bring you a mat. After that, if you decide to continue with the classes, you’ll need to provide your own mat and I recommend bringing a couple of cushions with you and any other equipment you want to use. You do not need any additional equipment for the class but there will be some exercises where you can make the exercises easier/harder with bands/balls/cushions. Please wear comfortable clothing (ideally different to that worn earlier in the day) and bring your own water.

I recommend arriving a little early (10-15 mins) to find us and for paperwork and introductions. For future sessions, please always aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before the start of class, to allow yourself time to set up.

Late arrival for your first class may mean you will be unable to join that class (as I need time to go through your form). If late to subsequent classes, please enter quietly and warm yourself up before joining in with the current exercise.

There are no refunds available for missed classes but you can reschedule a class – see here for full details on cancellations and rescheduling.

You’ll need to complete a health questionnaire and consent form. This can be completed online or electronically (emailed/printed off). There will also be paper forms available on the night.

Forms

Health and Consent:
All participants are required to fill out a health questionnaire and consent form prior to starting any class / 1:1. This allows me to screen for anything that would make participation unsafe or, more commonly, to allow me to help modify the exercises as needed to minimise pain and maximise effectiveness. We will work together at your first session to ensure you are happy with the basics of the technique and to guide you on how to comfortably and safely work at your own pace.

I have a PDF version (needs to be emailed to me/printed off and brought with you) and a website version (can be filled out directly on the website):

1:1 Sessions

Sessions are 55 mins long and are designed around you. The session format will depend on what you want to achieve with Pilates;
Do you want to get a good grounding of the basics before you join a class?
Do you have pain or problems that need more individual attention than a class can provide?
Are you restricted in which positions you can get into and so need exercises modified to what is comfortable for you?
Are you looking to maximise your technique?
Do you prefer exercising in the comfort and privacy of your own home?

In your first session, we’ll go through any goals you want to achieve with the session(s). The exercises will start by assessing where you body is comfortably working at, progressing to exercises to build flexibility, spinal support and control, reduce pain and build strength, as appropriate.

If you want exercises to continue with in-between sessions, we can agree how many, how often and in which positions, to ensure they can easily fit into your day/week. I often recommend recording the end of our sessions, so that you can remind yourself of how and what to do.

Our first session will also set a guide for how many sessions you want to do together / how many likely required to achieve your goals. If booking >2 sessions at a time, you get £5 off per session.
